teilo typeface

Teilo is a digital remake of what is considered to be the first example of Welsh handwriting from the 9th Century. While free to download through like below as a Creative Commons license, a donation of £3 is suggested x

teilo (lower case t) is a recreation of the writing of an unknown member of the church at Llandeilo, South Wales in the late 8th/early 9th Century AD (actual date not determined). It is significant is this handwriting sample known as the  ‘Surrexit Memorandum‘ which is written in a copy of the Gospels of St. Chad is believed to be the first example of written Welsh. Le Degree was created for an installation at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff in 2015. It is a hybrid of hand-written and a typewriter font and is designed to be used as vinyl without need for a level as the letter angles varying. Contact this site for more information.

Farm Shop Typeface

Farm Shop is based on a hand painted sign on a country lane. From a documented image, the size of the paintbrush was estimated and this determined a rule for vertical and horizontal strokes. Featured in Farm Shop (2014)  at Oriel Myrddin Gallery , West Wales UK and Free Mountain as part of Cardiff Contemporary (2014). Contact this site for more information.

Full Stop is a ‘personal’ Full Stop which was created for insertion into a lecture paper on Game Play by Anna Powell 2015. Contact this site for more information.

Ellipsis was a commission by the Glyn Vivian Gallery, Swansea for the Book Project 2016. It is created using letters written by a cross section of people involved in the re-development of the gallery from bricklayers to the director of the Glyn Vivian Gallery. Its intention was to be used on internal communications at the gallery a everyone became represented in the language of change. Contact this site for more information.
