Since 1991, I have been painting ‘Brushscapes’, rural landscapes on the bristles of discarded decorators paint brushes. These have been show in UK and Internationally, usually as the work of an imaginary sub-urban landscape artist called Wally French. Walter French was actually my mother’s father and he was unaware I was exhibiting in his name for many years. Recently, and since his death, I have also exhibited them under my own name; RE Higlett. The fiction of Wally French was and is still a part of the embedded fiction with the work, which was shown most notably at the re-opening of the Mostyn Gallery in Llandudno, North Wales 2012 for the exhibition ‘We Have The Mirrors, We Have The Plans’, where artists were nominated by curators working across Wales. A publication is available through Oriel Mostyn Gallery.
